NEWS RELEASE
$20,000 to be Awarded to Local Area Schools
Earning for Learning turns money spent at WestShore Plaza into cash prizes for local schools
Tampa, Florida (July 30, 2008) – WestShore Plaza officials announced today that for the 5th year in a row, the mall will award $20,000 to local area schools this fall. WestShore Plaza drives its commitment to children’s education through Earning for Learning, a partnership program designed to promote and support education in local school districts. Earning for Learning encourages local residents to shop at WestShore Plaza over an eight-week promotional period to earn “points,” and ultimately the chance to win cash prizes, for the school of their choice.
“Westshore Plaza is continuing efforts to help local schools raise funds for supplies and equipment with our ´Earning for Learning´ initiative," said Glimcher Marketing Manager Jessi Clark.
Now through September 30, 2008, each dollar that customers spend can be turned into points for the school of their choice. Mondays and Tuesdays are identified as “Double-Point Days”, meaning receipts from those select days earn the school double points. Shoppers simply redeem their receipts for points at Guest Services near Macy’s and designate their points to the school of their choice.
WestShore Plaza will keep a tally board updated weekly at the mall with a running total of each school’s points. At the end of the contest, the five schools with the most points per student ratio will be awarded cash prizes of $10,000, $5,000, $2,500, $1,500 and $1,000 respectively. Shoppers have until 9:00 pm on September 30, 2008 to turn in their receipts at WestShore Plaza.
At the end of the contest, winning schools will be notified in early October.
In past years, over 1 million points were totaled for the Tampa Bay area schools. Gorrie Elementary, last year’s grand prize winner, was awarded $10,000.
Every school in the Tampa Bay area is eligible to participate in the contest and is not required to sign-up. WestShore Plaza encourages residents to show their school spirit by participating in the Earning for Learning program and turn their shopping dollars into money for local schools.
